Member Spotlight: Gemma
It's time for another member interview and this week, we're chatting to one of Bloom's Community Choir members - Gemma! Gemma's been a part of our choir since we started as The Good Vibes Choir in 2023 and she’s an integral part of our soprano team. Her daughter has also started playing cornet in our C band so she’s involved in all areas of our organisation!
Q. What part do you sing and which choir(s) do you perform with?
A. Soprano in the Littleborough choir.
Q. How long have you sang for?
A. I sang in a youth choir but haven’t sung in a choir since then until I joined the Littleborough choir a couple of years ago.
Q. What made you join the choir?
A. I really enjoyed being in choir as a child and wanted to do something for myself in the week.
Q. What's your favourite thing about singing as part of a choir?
A. It is one of the most uplifting things to do, I can arrive in a bad mood and leave feeling much better!
Q. What's your favourite song (to sing or listen to) and why?
A. Very tough choice! I have a few favourites songs. My karaoke go to is Proud Mary but I love Soul and Motown and I love “Heaven must have sent you” by the Elgins. I love Stevie Wonder, Tina Turner, Kylie, basically pretty much anything!
Q. What advice would you give to someone who's thinking of joining one of the choirs?
A. Do it! Everyone is really welcoming and Carla is fab.
Q. What do you do outside of choir?
A. I’m a teacher.
Q. Any other hidden talents or hobbies?
A. I play the piano, have played a few instruments as a child and also played football until my late 20s.
Stay tuned for more member interviews coming soon!
